Tomorrow is the comic book show in Bristol, known officially as Rob-Con. This is the 25th year for the show operated by Mountain Empire Comics of Bristol (Robert Pilk) and Johnson City (John Stone). Robert has had bypass surgery, but is recovering and hopes to be at the show.
This is a great small-city one-day show; the 2008 show, the first held at the Bristol Mall, was the best one-day show I have ever had. The show returns to the Bristol Mall for the third year and there will be a great mix of vendors, artists, authors, and characters.
In the past the show was held at the Paramount Theatre on State Street (old movies and serials playing on the theatre screen during the show) and once, upstairs over the MEC store on State Street. Although comic boxes had to be lugged upstairs and the heat was oppressive (July), it ranks as the Most Fun Show I've ever been too; there was a kind of Mickey Rooney lets-do-a-show comraderie, and I've never had a better show for trading with other dealers. (One collector had been looking for Dragon Lance #3 for years, and yep: I had it). The show is in the Mall's conference room and will be from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.
