Buck Roger on the Moon (June 27, 2010)

(One in an occasional series of comic book stories)

Buck Rogers and crew are hiking carefully across the moon, having spotted at a distance what could be a Martian space ship. When they finally arrive, they see a crashed rocket, FIRST EARTH TO MOON EXPEDITION, 1948.

Inside they find the log  of the Moon Song, which launched from Earth 500 years ago (from a 45 degree platform). Doc Huer reads from the log: Lt. Horder calls the roll of the 12-man crew: SMith, Jones, Knight, Manning...

Once they launch, Capt. Stoddard guides the Moon Song through "many gruelling days, buffetted by great space tides, hurled off course by stellar magnetic forces and drowned in vast seas of choking gray cosmic dust..."

When the Moon Song crash lands on the moon, a stowaway, Jinx Fortune, a nosy-reporter dame, reveals her presence to the crew. Capt. Stoddard claims Jinx is just what her name implies (ho ho ho, Barney laughs, this log book may be 500 years old, but th reading matter ain't aged a day).

The Moon Song crew is running low on oxygen (the moon had an incomplete atmosphere back in 1948) and they have to follow the drifting oxygen pocket. As Doc finishes reading the last log entry, he posits that even after 500 years, at least one of those ancient earthpeople still lives! So Buck and his crew set off to see if they can find any Moon Song survivors. TO BE CONTINUED
