Twin Peaks Redux (August 23, 2016)

Last night I rewatched the Twin Peaks pilot on Netflix. Once again, as was the case with the original viewing in the 1990s, I was struck by how 1950s the show was, from the clothes (long skirts, leather jackets), the Dean-Brando doppelgangers, the soap opera show-within-a-show "Invitation to Love" they were always watching, to the character names (Ronette Pulaski, Harry Truman).

Lynch and Frost have acknowledge that Peyton Place, the trashy 1956 best-seller, was an inspiration for Twin Peaks. I've always thought that the show's first season was the best in television history and the second season was the worst. Now I can't stop humming Laura's Theme.....
